Good Afternoon Parents, students, and staff,

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, Principal of HCMS, and I am calling about tidbits for the upcoming week.  Any information shared will also be posted on the school website.

Congratulations is extended to Kyle C.  He was the big raffle winner from the BTS Bash and will serve as Principal of the Day on Wednesday, Sept 20.  I look forward to spending the day with Kyle and seeing those leadership abilities directed to HCMS.

A shout out to all the teacher leaders that have established door greeters in their classes.  The best way to welcome a guest is with a host.   We are LEADing the way by being proactive and beginning with the end in mind.

Parents, our first Early Release Professional Development day is scheduled for Thursday, Sept 21.  Please be aware that students will be released from school at 11:15. Buses will run their regular routes, and walkers and car riders will be released at 11:10.  Please make arrangements for your child for this earl dismissal.  Teachers will be engaged in Professional Development and students will not be allowed to remain on campus.

Ladies, if you are still interested in signing up for Heart and Sole, the final registrations date is Monday, 9/18.  Contact Ms. Miles for additional information and how to register.

The first set of Interim reports are scheduled to be distributed on Monday, September 18.  Please ask to see your child’s progress report.  If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to the teacher to request a conference at any time.

The first dance of the year is scheduled for Friday, September 22.  As all dances at HCMS admission is $3.00 and refreshments will be sold.  Dance slips will be sent home on Monday and must be returned signed by a parent, giving permission for the student stay.  Students that have received ISS or OSS since the beginning of the year or have outstanding lunch charges are not eligible to attend.

Please mark your calendars.  Spring pictures will be taken on Thursday, September 28.  Pre-order packet forms will be distributed next week.  These are the pictures that will also be used for the yearbook.   And speaking of yearbook, applications for joining the yearbook staff will be available by Wednesday, 9/20 in the front office.  Yearbook applications are open to students grades 6-8.   This is a great way to become a leader in developing the student culture of HCMS.  If you have questions, please see Ms. Larimore or Ms. Cunningham.

CandyMan order forms went home on Tuesday.  This is a major fundraising activity for the school.   All order forms are due by Tuesday, Oct 3.  Money should be turned in as a check or money order.  Please do not send cash.  We also encourage that student NOT walk around their neighborhood without a parent for safety reason.  All students that sell a minimum of 5 items will be allowed to attend the “Glow Dance” sponsored by Candyman. Top sellers will be able to participate in the annual Limo-lunch.

Athletic events for next week:

Away Softball game at BMS at 4:00 on Mon, 9/18 and on Wednesday, we host DMS here at HCMS.

On Tuesday, 9/19 the football team travels to BMS.  Parents please be aware of the requirements for getting on base for these events.

And finally, parents, to begin with the end in mind HCMS is being proactive in looking at the school lunch debt.  In three weeks, we have already accrued over a $1000.00 in lunch charges.  The school needs your help to keep HCMS out of the red.  At the end of the year the debt that is not paid becomes the school’s responsibility which impacts the purchase of instructional materials.  To decrease this debt, we are reaching out to you for assistance.  Please check your child’s lunch account balance frequently.  This can be done through Parent Portal, or you can request a balance from the café by emailing or calling.  Balances will not be given out over the phone, but a note can be sent home with your child.  As an incentive, any HR that has 100% of their class without lunch charges will receive recognition and a pizza party.  Also, be aware, that effective Monday, any student that exceeds $20.00 in lunch charges will not be able to attend school dances or other non-instructional extra-curricular activities such as field trips and/or participation in clubs and athletics, until the charges are paid.  At any time, applications for free and reduced forms can be sent home.  It is imperative that you take care of this debt with HCMS as soon as possible.

This ends our tidbits for this week.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend, good-bye.
