Good Afternoon Parents, students, and staff,

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, Principal of HCMS, and I am bringing you our weekly TAPPN Report for the two weeks of April 17 to April 28.  All information shared in this report is also posted on the school website.

A shout out to the HCMS SAVE Chapter.  They attended the National SAVE summit at NC State. HCMS was awarded SAVE Chapter of the Year for all of the efforts this year. Our SAVE club participated in a number of activities that range from mentoring the fifth grade SAVE club members at Hunters Creek Elementary to our SAVE members packing and wrapping shoeboxes for the children of the Women’s Shelter during the Christmas holidays. Our SAVE members practice and promote the beliefs of SAVE every day when at HCMS and within the community.

Spring Pictures will be taken on Tuesday April 18.  All students that take pictures will receive a picture packet.  Forms and instructions for ordering picture packets will be included.  If you do not want packets, then pictures must be returned to the school.

Due to the inclement weather on April 6, the new Panther Run date is now scheduled for April 27.  Money to participate in the Panther Run is due by April 25.

Its survey time again.  In an effort to improve system practices, Hunters Creek Middle School is conducting a Parent Survey. We value your opinion and ask that you take the time to complete this survey. There are 3 easy ways to participate:  Beginning April 18th, you can access the link through the HCMS website; or use the laptop that will be set up in the front office while you are waiting to check-in or check-out your child; or you can participate during the UnConference on April 25th or during the rising 7th grade and 8th grade encore registration nights in May.   Any parent that comes in to complete the survey in the office will receive a raffle ticket for an opportunity to win a gift card at a local fast food restaurant.  Please be assured that your responses to this survey will be anonymous.

National Junior Honor Society Invitations for application have gone out to qualifying 7th graders. Students must have had a 93% semester average and a flat out 93% average for the 3rd nine weeks to receive an invitation. Congratulations to those who met the first criterion. Applications are due to Ms. Light April 20th.

The HCMS 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Bands would like to invite everyone to come out to the Spring Band Concert to be held in the Earl Taylor Performing Arts Center at White Oak High School on Monday, May 1st.  The 6th & 7th grade concerts begin at 6:30 and the 8th grade concert will begin at 7:30.  Admission at the door is $3.00.  Children age 10 and younger are not charged.  Come out and support the Band!!!

Our first baseball games for the season are scheduled for April 18 at SBMS and April 20 at TMS.  Start time for the baseball games is 4:00.  In addition, we would like to thank WOHS for allowing HCMS home baseball games to be played on their field.  The first home games are scheduled for April 25 against SWMS and April 27th against BMS.

Our Technology UnConference is also scheduled for the evening of April 25th 5:30-7:00.  Please come out to see the great technology based activities that take place in the classroom.  The presentations will be facilitated by our student technology leaders.

Parents please mark your calendars for the following dates.  Beginning May 30 and ending June 5th, students will be taking their NCFE and EOG assessments.  CTE assessments will take place on June 7 and June 8.  Parents it is imperative that students arrive to school on time, have had a good breakfast and plenty of sleep the night before.  Assessments will begin as early as 7:15.  Students that do not arrive on time will have to take the assessments during the makeup windows, June 1st to June 9th.  We would also like to ask that you remind your child about charging their device fully the night before the assessments.  All assessments are now taken online.  As we are quickly moving closer to the end of the year, we encourage you to check your child power school grades often.  Our final distribution of Progress Reports is scheduled for April 26th

Our PSP will be sponsoring a dance scheduled for April 21st .  This fundraiser is an effort to assist with Teacher Appreciation Week in May.  If you are willing to assist by providing donations of canned sodas, chips or candy bars, we would certainly appreciate the help.  We are also looking for assistance with working the concession stand, the door and chaperoning the dance.  The dance is from 2:30 to 4:30 and will be the last general student dance for the year.  PSP is also looking for donations and assistance with activities for Teacher Appreciation Week in May.  If you can assist with donations such as gift cards or hands-on participation or any level in between, please just let us know, just send your contact information to office.

Yearbooks are still on sale.  The price is now $30.00.  A link is provided on the HCMS website and will also have order forms for the yearbooks.

 Other important dates and announcements:

  • Congratulations to Arianna C and Albert T.  They took first and second place in the school level Civic Oration contest that took place last month.  They will move to represent HCMS in the district level contest scheduled for April 27th.  We are really proud of all the contestants that participated that day.

This ends our weekly TAPPN report for the week of 4/17 to 4/28.  If you have any questions, please call 910-353-2147. All information shared in this report is also posted on the school website.  Thank you and enjoy the rest of your weekend.  Good-bye!
